Buying a Mattress Online: Everything You Need to Know

Share:

If you're ready to buy a new mattress, you may be hesitant to start your search. There are so many choices out there. We're here to help you cut through the noise and decrease the stress that can come with buying a new bed. Before you start shopping, do a little research. You should consider a few things:

  • What kind of mattress do you want? Memory foam, latex, traditional?

  • What size mattress is right for your lifestyle and space?

  • In general, what do you like in a mattress? Do you prefer a firmer bed or something a little softer?

Once you've done a little research, you're ready to go out and find your dream bed (pun intended). Many companies offer an easy, online ordering process, but you can also find a mattress in a traditional, brick-and-mortar store.

How to Buy a Mattress Online: A Step-By-Step

People avoid online mattress shopping for several reasons, including the inability to test them before buying, the process of returning them, or concerns about the mattress not arriving as advertised. The best part about buying a mattress online, especially if you partner with Leesa, is that you can take advantage of free sleep trials and often find it at a lower price than if you bought it in-store. Whether you're in the market for a new mattress or need some guidance, we will help you understand how to buy a mattress online as quickly and accurately as possible.

Budget

As thousands of mattresses are available online to choose from, it can seem overwhelming to find the right one. The best way to begin sifting through different mattress options and spending your time wisely is to have a budget or price range you are comfortable with. It is essential to remember, however, that the mattress you choose will significantly impact the quality of your sleep for at least 8-10 years, depending on the type and how well you take care of it. So, it is worth investing in one that is of good quality. In addition, by taking advantage of Leesa's payment plans and financing options, you don't have to sacrifice comfort or durability, and you're sure to be satisfied for years to come.

Mattress Type

Memory foam, hybrid, and traditional innerspring mattresses offer different firmness, support, and airflow. When choosing a supportive mattress, you should consider your sleeping position and body temperature. Back and stomach sleepers, for example, benefit from mattresses made of firm foam to support their backs during the night. In contrast, a medium-soft to medium-firm bed, such as a memory foam mattress, will help prevent pressure points from aggravating if you sleep on your side. Combination sleepers should choose a mattress according to their preferred sleeping position; however, medium-firm mattresses will provide comfort regardless of position.

Pros of Buying A Bed Online

Convenience

It's becoming more and more popular—people buying mattresses online. From traditional mattresses to bed-in-a-box options, the Internet is flooded with mattress choices. Why are people choosing to buy a bed from the Internet? The main benefit of buying a mattress online is convenience. You can go online, see the product, read reviews, watch videos, and make a purchase, all without getting off your couch or leaving the house. And no, that's not lazy! (We wouldn't judge anyways.) People are busy, and no one has time to spend their day mattress shopping. Not to mention, by purchasing a mattress online, you also don't have to deal with the pressure of a salesperson in a big mattress store.

When we started Leesa, we wanted to create a mattress shopping experience that consumers didn't dread. Our goal was to take the stress out of mattress buying. So, we eliminated the hovering salesperson in an overwhelming showroom and replaced them with an easy-to-use, one-stop shop at your fingertips. Check out all of our products, read what real customers think of them, and find helpful guides on mattresses, bedding, and better rest—all online. If you're ready for a new bed, start with our Mattress Buying Guide. Love your partner but don't love sharing a bed? Don't miss Sleep Like the Dead: Partner Edition. We want to make buying a mattress easy, so you get a great bed and start getting better rest.

Easy Returns

Buying a mattress online should give you peace of mind and make you feel cared for. Leesa mattresses come with a 100-night free trial and a free return policy. Take the first 30 days of your Leesa mattress to adjust to the feel of your new bed fully and acclimate in the comfort of your home. Should you decide the bed isn't for you, we will arrange pickup from your home and refund the total purchase price minus any discount you received. Furthermore, we will donate any returned mattress to a 501(c)(3) organization or charity partner, so you don't have to worry about its final destination.

Pros of Buying a Mattress In-Store

Try Before You Buy

The benefit of buying in-store is probably pretty obvious—in an actual store, you can test the mattresses before you buy it. It's important that the mattress you choose gives you the right balance of comfort and support, so if you can test out a few different mattresses, you may feel more comfortable with your purchase.

We totally understand that. So, in addition to our online store, we have two Dream Gallery locations. Visit our Virginia Beach Dream Gallery and our SoHo Dream Gallery in New York City. Both galleries have staff who are well-versed in all things Leesa, from the engineering of our mattresses to the thread count of our sheets. Come in, kick your feet up, and relax on our mattresses (try the Leesa mattress and the Leesa Hybrid mattress while you're here!). Test out both of our pillows and cuddle up with the Leesa blanket. Our Dream Gallery staff will be there to answer any questions you may have but won't pressure you or hover while you're relaxing. Plus, they can help you make a purchase in the store when you're ready.

If Virginia Beach or NYC isn't exactly up the street for you, head to your local West Elm or Pottery Barn store. We are also proud to partner with West Elm and Pottery Barn so you can try our products at a store that's convenient for you. It's the same deal as our Dream Gallery locations—curl up in bed and fall in love with Leesa in-store. Their employees are Leesa-educated, too, so they can answer any and all of your questions and help you check out in the store.

Try our Mattress in Your Own Home

If you are still a little nervous about buying a mattress online and can't make it to a physical store to try Leesa, we've still got you covered. Try a Leesa or Leesa Hybrid mattress in the comfort of your own home with our 100-night, risk-free trial. Lounge around, binge-watch your favorite shows, rest, and get to know your new mattress. If you don't love it (although we have a feeling you will), send it back for a full refund. Shipping and returns are always free.

Let Leesa upgrade your sleep so you can rest better.

FAQs

Should I buy a mattress online?

It's undeniable that making a mattress purchase online has unique benefits. For example, you can take all the time you need to choose the right mattress online without being restricted by business hours or competing for customer service attention. With the vastness of the Internet, you can search through the largest selection of mattresses without wasting time and gas driving around to various stores, which is also one of the advantages of purchasing online. So instead of trying to imagine how it would feel if you were tossing and turning it on in a store, you can sleep and wake up in bed and experience the natural feel.

How to buy a mattress online?

Shopping online for a mattress can be done in a few steps:
  1. Set your budget
  2. Choose a mattress type

  3. Decide on the size you'd like your bed to be
  4. Place your order
  5. Kickback and relax while we hand-deliver your mattress straight to your doorstep!
When your Leesa mattress arrives on your doorstep, you will need to set it up. First, open the box carefully and slide the tightly-rolled vacuum-sealed log onto your bedframe or base. Next, slowly remove the first and second layers of plastic from the mattress. Afterward, unroll the mattress, align it with each corner of the bed frame, and remove the final layer of plastic. Watch your bed expand as you pull the plastic from underneath.

Where to buy a mattress online?

Although we are sure you'll love Leesa, you can always go with another reputable company that you trust, like:

  2. Retail websites, such as department stores or warehouse clubs
  3. Online mattress companies, too!
