Through our partnership with Truemed, qualified customers can use their HSA (Health Spending Account) or FSA (Flexible Spending Account) funds to purchase eligible Leesa mattresses and adjustable bases. That means you’re not just investing in restorative sleep—you’re doing it with pre-tax dollars, often saving you hundreds of dollars.
Why Shop with your FSA or HSA?
Qualified Customers save ~30% by spending pre-tax dollars.
Here's how it works: Regular purchases come from money that's already been taxed. Your HSA/FSA? That's pre-tax money, which means more purchasing power for the same investment.
The Breakdown
When you earn $1,000, roughly $300 goes to taxes. You're left with $700 to spend.
But with HSA/FSA funds, you're spending that full $1,000 before taxes touch it. For health-related purchases, such as a medically necessary mattress that improves sleep quality and addresses specific health conditions, this translates to real savings—typically around 30% for the average taxpayer.
Your $1,000 mattress effectively costs you $700.
The exact savings depend on your tax bracket, but keeping an extra 25-35% is possible by using pre-tax health dollars instead of post-tax income.

*Note: Mattresses are considered a necessary household item. As a result, only the incremental costs associated with the mattress’s additional health benefits—beyond what a standard mattress provides—is eligible for reimbursement. See Terms at truemed.com/disclosures
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Contribution limits:
HSA: $4,150/year individual, $8,300/year family (plus $1,000 if 55+)
FSA: $3,200/year (plus $500 employer contribution allowed)
Is an HSA or FSA Mattress Purchase Allowed?
Truemed simplifies the process.
Under IRS guidelines, HSA and FSA funds can be used for qualified medical expenses. While mattresses aren't explicitly listed, they can still qualify when they are medically necessary to address sleep issues, chronic pain, or related medical health conditions, as determined by a licensed provider.
After you shop, you'll complete a health survey. If your purchase qualifies, a licensed provider will issue a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN), which enables you to use your HSA/FSA.
No in-person doctor's visit required.

HSA & FSA Mattress Eligibility FAQs
Which Leesa mattresses are HSA/FSA eligible?
All mattresses in the Leesa collection potentially qualify for HSA/FSA purchase when deemed medically necessary, including our popular Leesa Original, Legend Hybrid, and Sapira Hybrid, as well as adjustable bases. When purchasing eligible mattresses through our partnership with Truemed, you can spend pre-tax dollars and save an average of 30%. Truemed’s health assessment determines if your specific sleep health needs qualify your purchase as a qualified health-related expense. View all products.
How do I know if my mattress purchase qualifies?
After selecting Truemed at checkout, you'll complete a Truemed health assessment—a survey about your sleep health and any related conditions like chronic pain, insomnia, or back issues. A licensed provider reviews your answers and, if appropriate, approves and issues a Letter of Medical Necessity. This enables you to use HSA/FSA funds.
What's the actual savings when I use my HSA/FSA?
When you spend pre-tax dollars through your HSA or FSA, you're ~30% average on taxes. That means a $1,000 eligible purchase effectively costs you around $700. The exact savings depend on your tax bracket, but most people save between 25 and 35% by using pre-tax funds for eligible health purchases instead of post-tax income.
**Note: Mattresses are considered a necessary household item. As a result, only the incremental costs associated with the mattress’s additional health benefits—beyond what a standard mattress provides—is eligible for reimbursement.
How does the health assessment work?
Truemed’s health assessment asks straightforward questions about your health and medical history. You're not diagnosing yourself—a licensed provider reviews your responses to determine if a new mattress would address a legitimate medical concern. No doctor's appointment, no complicated paperwork.
What if my FSA or HSA doesn't cover the full purchase?
No problem. You can split payment between your HSA/FSA card and a regular credit or debit card. Many customers use their available HSA or FSA funds to cover what they can, then pay the difference with another payment method. You'll still save on the portion paid with pre-tax dollars.
Does using my HSA/FSA affect my insurance or deductible?
Not at all. Using HSA or FSA funds for mattresses doesn't count toward your health insurance deductible and is separate from employer-provided health insurance coverage.
Can I get reimbursed if I already bought my mattress?
Unfortunately, no. The health survey must be taken on the same day of purchase, so previous purchases do not apply for retroactive reimbursement.
What products beyond mattresses are HSA/FSA eligible?
Along with all eligible mattresses in our lineup, adjustable bases qualify when medically necessary. Select pillows, mattress protectors, and other sleep accessories may also be covered depending on your specific sleep health needs. The health assessment will determine which products qualify based on how they address your individual health concerns.
Do I need documentation from my primary care doctor?
No. The licensed provider who reviews your health assessment serves as your medical professional for this purchase. They'll issue the Letter of Medical Necessity if your purchase qualifies. There's no need to schedule an appointment, get a prescription, or involve your regular doctor—though you're welcome to discuss sleep health with them separately.
How long does the approval process take?
Most health assessments are reviewed within 12 hours. You'll receive notification once a licensed provider approves your purchase and issues your Letter of Medical Necessity. The process is designed to be quick and straightforward so you can start improving your quality of sleep as soon as possible.
What if I don't have an HSA or FSA?
You can still purchase any Leesa mattress using regular payment methods. However, if you're enrolled in a health plan during open enrollment season, consider adding an HSA (if you have a high deductible health plan) or FSA. These accounts let you set aside pre-tax dollars specifically for health-related expenses—making future purchases of eligible mattresses and other wellness products much more affordable.
Can I use HSA/FSA for a mattress for my child?
Yes, you may use your HSA/FSA dollars for your dependents.
