7 Unique Gifts to Show Dad How Much You Care

Share:

Your Dad is a special guy. He’s always got your back, supporting you through all of life’s moments, even if he occasionally goes overboard with the Dad jokes.

This Father's Day, you want to give him a gift showing you care, but shopping for Dad is notoriously difficult for many. The same goes for other Dads in your life, whether your partner, siblings, or friends. Every Dad deserves a perfect gift on their day that makes them feel loved.

We’re sharing our favorite, thoughtful gifts for Dad for every sports-obsessed, dinner-cooking, video-game-playing, adventure-loving father out there.

1. Let Dad rest

Dads work hard, whether in the office or at home. If you're looking for a gift Dad will really appreciate, then an hour or two of peace and quiet for Father’s Day will hit the spot. If you have young kids, take them to the pool or park for the afternoon to let Dad rest. Pick up your Dad’s partner/family and give him the time and space to kick back and relax. If you'd rather spend actual Father's Day with Dad, give him a "Quiet Time Coupon" that he can redeem at a later date.

Making sure Dad has time to rest is awesome, but you should make sure he has the tools to get good rest, too. Sometimes, he's so busy taking care of everyone else, he may forget to take care of himself. If he’s sleeping on an old, creaky mattress or still has that lumpy, old pillow, we’re here to help. What better gift is there than the gift of Zzz’s?

  • Shop our awesome mattresses for Dad. The Leesa Original Mattress comes with premium, cooling foam for the comfort and support Dad needs in his bed. The Leesa Sapira Hybrid Mattress has all the benefits of the Leesa, with the added support of individually-wrapped springs.

With its adjustable loft, Dad can tailor the pillow to his preferred height and firmness, ensuring a restful night's sleep. Whether he prefers a softer or firmer feel, the Adjustable Chill Pillow adapts to his needs, making it a thoughtful and practical gift.

  • The perfect mattress deserves the right base. Shop our bed bases today and give Dad a base that will support his new favorite mattress and match his bedroom style.

2. Give him a gift you can use together

Nothing beats quality time spent together. Americans overwhelmingly believe spending time with family is one of the most important things in their life, so why not give Dad the gift of quality time? Maybe Dad loves to cook. Give him a cookbook or get all the ingredients together to spend an hour making his favorite meal.

Is this a crafty Dad? Plan a project and finish it together. If Dad is an expert gardener (or takes pride in his yard), offer to help pull tough weeds. Or take a trip to your local nursery and freshen the flowerbeds this Father’s Day.

While they're not traditional gifts, showing interest in Dad's interests will make his day, and he'll appreciate spending quality time with you and/or the family.

3. Plan an activity at home

How about a fun day at home for Father’s Day? He’s always moving and going—whether he’s being handy around the house, running errands, or working late. He’ll appreciate some quiet time with family at home, especially since most Dads spend their time playing with or providing care to children anyway. It’s normal to stay home and spend time with the family. Why not make it even more fun?

Here are three of our favorite ways you can spend Father’s Day at home:

  • Plan a movie night. Pop some popcorn, get his favorite candy, and choose a movie that’s great for the whole family. You could even order some pizza and make it a movie marathon day with Dad.

  • Break out the board games. It’s time for a board game night of epic proportions. If you have small children, start the night with Catan Jr. Later, invite his friends or older family members over for a thrilling game of Catan.

  • Make him a home-cooked meal. Let him sit back and relax for a change (and maybe sip on his favorite drink!) while you whip up a delicious meal. Nothing shows Dad you care like cooking his favorite dish.

Not a chef? Not a problem. Try this easy Pizza Pasta Bake recipe Dad’s sure to love.

Pizza Pasta Bake

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 8 oz spicy Italian sausage, no casing

  • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni

  • 1 can (15-oz) tomato sauce

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

  • 1/2 tsp dried basil

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 8 oz rotini pasta (uncooked)

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to broil.

  • In a large oven-proof pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.

  • Cook Italian sausage until browned, about 3-5 minutes, breaking up the sausage as it cooks. Be sure to drain fat.

  • Stir in 1/4 cup pepperoni and stir. Heat for about 1 minute.

  • Add tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, pasta, and 1 1/2 cups water. Stir.

  • Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

  • Bring mixture to a boil. Then, cover, reduce heat, and simmer until pasta is cooked (about 12-14 minutes).

  • Remove from heat and top with mozzarella and remaining pepperoni.

  • Put in oven and cook until cheese melts or golden brown (about 2 minutes).

  • Garnish with parsley and serve.

4. Plan an activity out of the house

Take the time to plan an out-of-the-house activity that Dad will love for Father’s Day. Head to your local golf range, go bowling, take an urban hike, or spend the day by the pool. Make sure you consider how you'll get there and the food and supplies you'll need so that Dad doesn't have to do any of the work.

If you’re headed to the beach, pack a picnic lunch. Even if it’s something as simple as sandwiches, chips, and fruit, Dad will appreciate the thoughtfulness. If you will be in the sun, don’t forget to pack sunscreen and extra water.

5. Book Dad a spa day

Some towels at a spa

Yep, you heard us right. A day at the spa gives him some quiet, alone time where the focus is solely on him for a change. We know it’s not the common suggestion, but the spa is not just for ladies! Dad deserves to be pampered and can benefit from a facial and massage.

Alternative ideas for pampering include a full beard grooming treatment and a chiropractic wellness visit. He’ll come home feeling spoiled, zen, and thankful.

6. Make Dad a gift

A gift box for Dad

You don’t have to spend a lot of money on Dad for him to feel special. Why not make him a gift? Homemade gifts are especially great for young children.

Write him a card (and include a fun scratch off or gift card), make him a mix tape (or playlist), or build him a birdhouse. You know Dad best, so think about what he’d like and go for it. If you're making cards, encourage the kids to write their own messages, and definitely don't hold back on the dried macaroni, feathers, and, of course, biodegradable glitter.

Another homemade gift idea we love is creating a memory jar. Memory jars are great to do with children and older loved ones. Fill a mason jar or container with memories, and you should throw in a few yourself. You can write them on popsicle sticks, large puzzle pieces, or small cards. Then, you can all sit down with Dad and read each memory on Father’s Day.

7. Give Dad a gift that supports his hobbies

New research found that Dads are pretty hard on themselves . They’re often self-critical and worry they’re not doing enough as a Father. You know that’s not true. The Dads in your life work hard and are always ready with a smile and a word of encouragement. This Father’s Day, buy him a gift that supports his hobbies, encouraging him to invest in himself and take needed time for self-investment.

Pick a gift that says “I think you’re doing a great job and deserve some time off.” The buying options include tailored, personalized gifts that display knowledge of his favorite activities, like the following:

  • Help Dad upgrade his backcountry gear with a new tent or a set of camping cookware.

  • Give the gift of a fitness tracker or a new pair of running shoes.

  • Consider gifting a subscription to an outdoor, survival, or fitness magazine.

  • Find a unique gift that encourages Dad to get outside and be active.
